In just one year, women in Nepal and Cambodia had tens of thousands of abortions in non-sanctioned clinics, in their homes, or used illegal medications. Unlike many places in the region, abortion is actually legal in both countries. The reasons why women would risk their lives rather than turn to a government hospitals involve deep social stigma, unawareness of women’s rights, and basic geographical challenges. We will tell this story through interactions with affected women, NGOs, and lawmakers.
This project aims to let the women answer and tell their stories to a mass audience through text, photos, video and data visualizations.
