Big Men tells character-led stories about men, masculinity and gender equality in East Africa, from men who have dedicated their lives to women’s rights, to those who have been forced to rethink their machoism.

Too often gender development is considered women’s problem to solve, but from pastors to police officers, this project examines the role men can play. We challenge the African ‘Big Men’ stereotype, presenting stories of men redefining masculinity. The project does so by using a multimedia mix of text, photo, documentary and illustration.
